We live in the age of information technology, when the human visual system is overstressed from childhood. Thus, it is not surprising that the number of people with refractive disorders is growing from year to year. Issues related to visual disorder correction remain relevant at all times.

To date, the standard laser correction of mild and moderate near-sightedness is a successful direction of ophthalmic surgery and has long since become a routine operation that entails no complications. However, current requirements of patients to the surgery outcome are increasing and are associated not only with improving the visual acuity, but with enhancing the vision quality – “supervision”, they require an individual approach to each patient taking into account their lifestyle and professional activities.

Standard laser surgeries in such patients are associated with a number of problems in the postoperative period, such as: undercorrection or overcorrection, postoperative instability of the refractive effect and, therefore, the need for another surgery.

The problems are solved by constant improvement and development of diagnostic equipment and laser systems, the use of unconventional laser treatment and new algorithms of laser exposure with account of the aspheric cornea, using corneal topography (anterior corneal surface imaging) or aberrometry (wavefront scans the entire optical system) data.
